Hi, I’m David!
I took my first (and only) photography class at UC Santa Cruz back in 1997, and then took off in 2003 to travel the world - performing, directing, studying, and teaching as an interdisciplinary artist. I studied Kung Fu at a Shaolin monastery with no electricity in the mountains of China, became a professional mask-maker in Italy, studied Capoeira in Brazil, performed acrobatics all over the world, trained a Bollywood megastar for a few of his films in India, and always carried a camera through my strange and often magical adventures.
These days I’m back in Santa Cruz. I’m happier than I can say having a home where all my tea cups, books, and floral-printed shirts (not to mention my amazing wife and daughter) live in one place! I have two parallel careers: one photographing weddings, events, and action photography (and course cannabis when the occasion arises), and the other as a professional acrobat and mask-theater performer.
As an Aphantasiac (I have literally no ability to visualize in my head), photography is more to me than just an art; it is an active and truly crucial part of my functional memory. Without my photographs, I forget entire chapters of my own life. My camera is part of my consciousness, my way of seeing and remembering the world. So I invite you to take a breath, slow down, and I hope you enjoy what you see.
